"Finishing second at the European Championship is a major achievement for Azerbaijani billiards."
Seymur Mammadov, President of the Azerbaijan Billiards Federation (ABF), said this in a statement to Report news agency while speaking about the silver medal won at the European Championship, Idman.biz reports.
He shared his impressions of the tournament held in Batumi, Georgia: "There were many participants in the tournament. Just imagine, 115 billiards players from 16 countries competed for victory. On top of that, time was limited. Under such circumstances, securing second place is a great success for Azerbaijani billiards. Of course, we could have won the gold medal as well. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen."
The ABF president said they have new plans for Azerbaijani billiards: "We have some plans. Billiards academies are already being opened in Azerbaijan. We want new, young, and promising players to emerge in billiards. We need fresh blood, a new spirit. If that happens, we will have more representatives at international competitions."
Mammadov also stated that they want to host a world championship in Baku: "Our plans are big. We want to organize a world championship in billiards in Baku. However, there are certain issues we are working on. We are constantly working in this direction."
