Azerbaijani athletes begin competition at Universiade in Germany’s Rhine-Ruhr region.
Competitions in rhythmic gymnastics, fencing, badminton, table tennis, tennis, and swimming kick off today, Idman.biz reports.
In rhythmic gymnastics, Ilona Zeynalova and Kamilla Seyidzade will compete in the individual all-around, while the group all-around team of Laman Alimuradova, Gullu Agalarzade, Darya Sorokina, Kamilla Aliyeva, and Yelyzaveta Luzan will showcase their skills.
In badminton, mixed team matches will be held. In the group stage, Azerbaijan will face Thailand and Australia. The team includes Hajar Nuriyeva, Aqil Gabilov, Nigar Samedova, and Murad Shabanzade.
In fencing, Azerbaijani athletes will begin their group stage matches. In the women’s epee, Aynur Guliyeva, Nazila Rahimova, and Khadija Hasanli will compete, while in men’s sabre, Magsud Huseynli, Saleh Mammadov, and Murad Akbarov will represent Azerbaijan.
In table tennis, the women’s team, Khadija Abilzade, Nigar Mahmudova, Sabina Mammadova, and Zemfira Mikayilova, will face South Korea in their opening group match. The men’s team (Amin Orujzada, Nihad Samadzade, and Tural Mirzayev) will take on the USA.
In tennis, Elvin Hashimov will play against Zambia’s Nakalanga Hamayangwe.
In swimming, Fatima Alkaramova, Abdurrahman Rustamov, and Ramil Valizade will compete in the 50m butterfly event. Said Hamidov will race in the 100m backstroke. Additionally, the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay will be held.
