The Universiade, which will officially open today in Germany’s Rhine-Ruhr region, has its own mascot.
The chosen mascot is a peregrine falcon named Vanda, Idman.biz reports.
There are two main reasons for choosing this bird: it is the fastest bird in the world and can be found on nearly every continent except Antarctica.
All Universiade participants, including athletes from Azerbaijan, have been gifted a toy version of the mascot.
