For several days now, numerous flags of the countries participating in the Universiade, set to take place in Germany’s Rhine-Ruhr region, have adorned the area between Grugapark and the exhibition center in the city of Essen.
The official opening ceremony of the Flag Plaza has taken place, Idman.biz reports.
During the event, the flags of Germany and the International University Sports Federation (FISU) were raised.
FISU President Leonz Eder, accompanied by the mayors of Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, and Mulheim an der Ruhr, cut a symbolic ribbon to officially declare the Flag Plaza open.
The Flag Plaza invites visitors on a mini world tour and has already become a popular spot for photo opportunities.
The Universiade’s opening ceremony, featuring the participation of the Azerbaijani team, is also scheduled for today.
