England sweat over Ben Stokes injury after day one at Lord’s

England are keeping their "fingers crossed" after captain Ben Stokes suffered a suspected groin injury on day one of the third Test against India at Lord’s.

Idman.biz, citing BBC, reports that Stokes, who finished unbeaten on 39, received treatment on the field and was visibly struggling while running, refusing a second run that would have brought Joe Root his century. Root remains not out on 99, with England ending the day on 251-4.

Vice-captain Ollie Pope, who scored 44, said, “Hopefully he [Stokes] can do something magic and come back strong.” Stokes, 34, has only recently returned from hamstring surgery and has been managing his workload.

India also face concerns as wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant left the field after two blows to his finger, with no X-ray planned yet. England hope to build on their score and push past 400 on a slow Lord’s pitch.
