Six suspects, including one apprehended in Russia, have been detained in connection with the stabbing of Araz Musayev, President of the Azerbaijan Muay Thai Federation, during the IFMA U23 Elite Muay Thai World Championship held in Kemer, Antalya.
Idman.biz, citing Trend, reports that several of the suspects attempted to flee the scene first by rental car, then by taxi. It was later discovered that they changed clothes and shaved their faces to avoid recognition.
Following the incident, the Kemer District Prosecutor's Office launched a large-scale investigation through the District Gendarmerie Command. Based on detailed inquiries and Musayev's testimony, the identities of the suspects were established. One of the key suspects, Azerbaijani national A.H., who is believed to have orchestrated the attack, was arrested in Kemer. Authorities have also begun searching for additional suspects from Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. Surveillance revealed that the group had taken a taxi from a parking area in Goynuk to Antalya Airport.
One of the individuals identified as directly involved in the stabbing was apprehended at Antalya Airport following a police chase. Another suspect managed to flee to Russia but has since been placed on a red notice alert. Turkish authorities, in coordination with Russian security forces, located the individual at an airport in Russia, and extradition proceedings are now underway. Efforts to locate and detain the final suspect are ongoing.
The incident occurred on May 24 at the Atatürk Sports Hall in Goynuk, Kemer, during the IFMA U23 Elite Muay Thai World Championship. At approximately 3:00 PM, Araz Musayev was attacked inside the venue, sustaining two stab wounds to the abdomen and a head injury. He received immediate medical attention from the on-site medical team before being transferred to Kemer State Hospital, and later to Antalya City Hospital. It has been reported that Musayev remained conscious and underwent surgery.
