Azerbaijan Deaflympic Committee becomes a member of ICSD

The Azerbaijan Deaflympic Committee (ADC) has officially joined the International Committee of Deaf Sports (ICSD), the global governing body for sports for individuals with hearing impairments.

According to Idman.biz, this membership is expected to significantly boost the Deaflympic Movement in Azerbaijan, promoting the integration and social engagement of people with hearing impairments through sports, Idman.biz reports.

Founded in October 2023, the ADC focuses on developing physical education and sports among people with hearing disabilities, supporting their rehabilitation and integration into society, and expanding the popularity of Deaflympic sports in the country.

In April this year, leaders from the ICSD and the European Deaf Sports Organization (EDSO) visited Azerbaijan for the first time. During their visit, they met with ADC officials, athletes, coaches, and representatives of various state institutions to discuss the committee’s role as the country’s official representative of the Deaflympic Movement and its future plans.

Membership in the ICSD marks a new chapter for the Deaflympic Movement in Azerbaijan, paving the way for local athletes to compete in international events. It is also expected to foster the development of more athletes and professional coaches in this field and strengthen the country’s access to international expertise.

Currently, the Azerbaijan Deaflympic Committee works closely with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the National Olympic Committee, the National Paralympic Committee, various sports federations, and NGOs supporting people with hearing and speech impairments.
