Wrestling referee dies after being thrown to the mat during match in Mexico

Mexican wrestling referee Gerardo German Pineda, known as "El Buho", has died following an incident during the main event of a wrestling tournament in the Mexican state of Hidalgo.

As reported by İdman.Biz, the 75-year-old official was involved in an altercation with wrestler Hijo de Fishman, who reportedly performed a wrestling move on him during the match.

According to reports, the wrestler lifted Pineda, turned him upside down and slammed him onto the mat.

The referee remained on the ground, visibly struggling in pain, before eventually becoming unresponsive.

Medical personnel arrived at the scene but were unable to save him and pronounced him dead.

Following the incident, police reportedly detained Hijo de Fishman in connection with the referee's death.

The wrestler could face between five and 15 years in prison if convicted of intentional homicide, according to the reported allegations.

The circumstances surrounding the incident and the wrestler's potential criminal responsibility remain subject to investigation.
