The Azerbaijan Surfcasting Championship has been held with the participation of 35 anglers representing four fishing clubs.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the competition was jointly organised by the ministry, the Azerbaijan Aquatic Sports Federation and the Baku Anglers and Underwater Hunters Club.
The opening ceremony began with the national anthem of Azerbaijan. Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov then addressed the participants and wished them success. He spoke about the state support provided to sport and athletes in the country and praised the development of aquatic sports in Azerbaijan in recent years.
Following the official ceremony, Gayibov symbolically made the first cast to launch the national championship.
The competition was held in accordance with international surfcasting rules. The fish caught during the six-hour event were assessed by the judges according to established criteria, with the participants achieving the best results taking the top places.
Ahmad Mammadov of the Azerbaijan Carp Fishing Club won the national title. Ilkin Umudov of the Baku Anglers Club finished second, while his clubmate Farman Abdulov took third place.
Umudov also received the "Big Fish" award after catching the largest fish of the competition, measuring 40 cm.
The winners were presented with diplomas, medals and other prizes. The Azerbaijan Aquatic Sports Federation also awarded diplomas to the judges in recognition of their professional work.
