Farhad Hajiyev, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, met with Katsuya Watanabe, Japan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, to discuss the 2026 Sumo World Championship, which will be held in Baku.
Idman.Biz reports, citing the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ press service, that the meeting focused on attracting sports enthusiasts from Japan to Azerbaijan within the framework of Baku as the “Sports Capital of the World,” organizing joint training camps, and other related matters.
The discussion was attended by Elnur Mammadov, Head of the Sports Department of the Ministry, Zarifa Zulfugarova, Head of the International Relations Department, and Taiichi Tsuchiya, First Secretary of the Japanese Embassy.
