Alfie Davis upsets Gadzhi Rabadanov to win PFL lightweight tournament

Britain’s Alfie Davis stunned defending champion Gadzhi Rabadanov to win the PFL lightweight tournament by unanimous decision in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Idman.biz, citing BBC, reports that London’s Davis edged a close contest, landing the more damaging strikes with all three judges scoring it 48-47 in his favor. Overcome with emotion, he described the $500,000 prize as “life-changing.” Davis becomes the third Briton to win a PFL tournament after Brendan Loughnane and Dakota Ditcheva.

Davis reached the final following impressive victories over Clay Collard and Brent Primus. Facing last year’s champion Rabadanov, who was on a 12-fight win streak, Davis initially struggled but opened up in the third round with counter strikes. In the final round, he landed decisive blows to secure the win.

Meanwhile, in the women’s flyweight final, Liz Carmouche knocked out Jena Bishop and called for a fight with Ditcheva, who is recovering from hand surgery. Britain’s Fabian Edwards will compete in the middleweight final against Dalton Rosta on August 21 in Hollywood, Florida.
