Baku may host a second UFC tournament this year.
This was stated by Ali Isaev, a former Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler, European and World Cup medalist, and currently a professional MMA fighter, Idman.biz reports.
In an interview with Sputnik Azerbaijan, Isaev said:
"I spoke directly with members of the Azerbaijani delegation in the organizing committee, and they said that two UFC events are planned to take place in Baku. I hope it happens, and I get the chance to compete there. As for the second event, it could take place at the end of this year. I believe discussions are already underway regarding the date of the second tournament."
He also mentioned that there is a possibility he could participate in tomorrow's UFC event:
"I realized it too late, and as a result, I missed the chance to be included among the participants."
Ali Isaev has had 10 professional MMA fights, winning nine and drawing one. In 2019, he won $1 million by becoming the champion of the PFL, the second most prominent MMA promotion in the U.S.
Three Azerbaijani fighters will compete this Saturday at Baku Crystal Hall. Rafael Fiziev will face Chilean Ignacio Bahamondes, Nazim Sadykhov will fight Brazilian Nikolas Motta, and Tofiq Musayev will take on Kyrgyz fighter Myktybek Orolbai.
