Azerbaijan’s own Tofig Musayev is officially set to compete in the first-ever UFC event in Azerbaijan, marking a milestone for the country’s mixed martial arts scene.
Musayev has signed a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and will take part in UFC Fight Night: Hill vs Rountree, scheduled for June 21 at the Baku Crystal Hall, Idman.biz reports.
Musayev, competing in the lightweight division, will face Kyrgyz fighter Myktybek Orolbai. With this bout, Musayev becomes the third Azerbaijani fighter to sign with the UFC, further elevating the country’s presence on the global MMA stage.
The event’s main card will feature a showdown between former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jamahal Hill and former title challenger Khalil Rountree. The co-main event pits Azerbaijani lightweight Rafael Fiziev against Ignacio Bahamondes from Chile. Another Azerbaijani fighter, Nazim Sadykhov, will also step into the octagon to face Brazil’s Nikolas Motta.
This landmark event is expected to draw massive local and international attention, reflecting the rapid rise of MMA in the region.
