An MMA fight held in Baku has been featured in the latest edition of Missed Fists, a popular column by leading combat sports outlet MMA Fighting highlighting spectacular, unusual and overlooked moments from events around the world.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the international roundup included the bout between Ummat Jafarov and Nihat Kerimov at an Ased Fighting Championship event in the Azerbaijani capital.
MMA Fighting's attention was drawn to the unusual sequence that ended the contest. Jafarov landed a precise three-strike combination that left Kerimov on the canvas in an almost cross-legged sitting position. Jafarov continued the attack with several more strikes before the referee stopped the fight.
The MMA Fighting authors humorously highlighted Kerimov's unusual fall, describing it as effectively "another way to fall" inside the cage. Footage of the finish was included among the most notable moments in the latest edition of Missed Fists.
The bout took place at Ased Fighting Championship Selection 16, held on September 27 at Ased Arena in Baku.
Missed Fists is a regular MMA Fighting feature showcasing spectacular knockouts, submissions and unusual incidents from combat sports events across the world.
The latest edition also singled out two leading candidates for "Knockout of the Week." Former Glory lightweight champion Tyjani Beztati produced a spectacular counter-knee knockout of Daniel Kolasinski at Levels Fight League 24, while Miguel Soares delivered another devastating finish against Heitor Santos at Martial Arts Championship 17.
The roundup also featured an unusual incident from a Krush event in Tokyo. Before the fight resumed, Kei's cornerman slapped his fighter hard across the face in an apparent attempt to motivate him. Soma Kondo later knocked Kei out with a kick.
Another rapid finish came at Tuff-N-Uff 157, where Derek Rayfield stopped Oliver Mekkel in just eight seconds.
The inclusion of Jafarov and Kerimov's bout put the Baku event alongside some of the week's most unusual combat sports moments from Japan, the United States, Brazil, Mexico and other countries.
