What is the main goal of the training camp in Guba?
After the World Championships, we completed an extensive preparation phase, and rest was important for the athletes. Now, Guba is the most suitable place to return to form during the long summer period. The weather in Baku is very hot, and changing the location increases the athletes' motivation. The air here is clean, and it is also possible to hike in the mountains. The camp has been beneficial for us.
Are you focusing more on physical or technical-tactical training?
Our main focus is on physical preparation. However, we are also working effectively to improve ne-waza (ground techniques) during this time. We have been working a lot in this direction, and I can say our athletes have shown themselves well.
Which competitions is this camp preparing you for?
This is the first phase of our long-term preparation for the Islamic Solidarity Games. Naturally, we will also participate in some Grand Prix events during this phase, but without special preparation. Our main goal is the Islamic Games. After this camp, we will continue training for another three weeks in Baku, followed by a two-week general preparation in Brazil.
