“I felt rejuvenated after seeing my loved ones gathered here.”
According to Idman.biz, this is what renowned Azerbaijani sports veteran and former judoka Ahmaddin Rajabli, who is celebrating his 80th birthday today, told AZERTAC.
The Honored Coach, who mentioned that he retired 13 years ago, expressed his happiness for the recognition of his efforts in the development of sports: “It’s great that sports veterans are not forgotten and are remembered on such days. My friends, with whom I fought shoulder to shoulder, are here today. We once had a healthy rivalry, but we were also good friends and confidants. Thankfully, thanks to the efforts of myself and my colleagues, Azerbaijani judo has repeatedly made its mark on the world stage.”
He wished success to young Azerbaijani athletes and encouraged them to keep working on themselves: “May they always raise the Azerbaijani flag high. They must be strong and determined. They should not lose heart after a defeat, that is the worst trait for an athlete. They should believe in themselves and not fear anything or anyone.”
