Zelim Tckaev: “This medal means a lot to me” – INTERVIEW - VIDEO

Azerbaijan’s judoka Zelim Tckaev (81 kg), who won a bronze medal at the World Judo Championships in Budapest, shared his thoughts in an interview with the press service of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation.

Reflecting on his performance, Tckaev described the medal as a deeply meaningful achievement, Idman.biz reports:

“I feel great—very happy and excited. This medal is incredibly valuable to me. In my eyes, it's as good as gold, because it's my first ever medal at a World Championship. Together with my coaches, we created a plan, and it worked out. It was a tough match, but in the end, we managed to win. I believe we did a solid job.”

When asked about his semifinal loss, the national team member responded honestly:

“Yes, I had a chance to win. But it just didn’t go my way this time. My opponent got the better of me.”

Having already earned bronze at the European Championships and now at the Worlds, Tckaev is aiming higher for the future:

“Next year, the World Championships will be held in Baku, and I will do everything I can to win the gold medal.”

Tckaev also acknowledged the congratulations from the federation leadership:

“As always, they congratulated me and showed their support. I really appreciate that.”

When asked who he dedicates this victory to, his answer was heartfelt:

“To my family, of course, and to Azerbaijan—because the country has given me everything. I dedicate this medal to the federation, the medical staff, the coaches, and everyone who has supported me on this journey.”

On a lighter note, Tckaev was asked whether he had ever taken so many photos in one evening:

“To be honest, there were even more during the Grand Slam in Baku when I won. There were lots of kids and adults taking pictures. But for now, my next goal is to return home and relax with my wife and child. That’s my current focus.”
