Azerbaijan has moved up to fifth place in the overall standings of the World Judo Tour.
The series includes major ranking events such as the Grand Slam and Grand Prix tournaments, Idman.biz reports.
Azerbaijan’s rise in the rankings comes after winning two gold and two silver medals at the Grand Slam event in Dushanbe.
Since the start of the year, Azerbaijani judokas have secured four gold, four silver, and five bronze medals. The team currently trails fourth-place Georgia only due to a lower bronze medal count.
Japan leads the overall standings (20 gold, 15 silver, 18 bronze), followed by France in second (9-8-19) and athletes competing under the IJF flag in third (9-8-11).
