"I think I performed well in France. I won against very strong opponents."
Azerbaijani judoka Eljan Hajiyev (90 kg), who won the silver medal of the Grand Slam in Paris, told Idman.us.
The 21-year-old athlete evaluated his performance in France. He said that the representative of Turkiye, Michael Zgang, made a "surprise" for him in the final: "I started the race with a victory over the strong Japanese Sanshiro Murao. After that, I eliminated strong opponents. Zgang was very strong in the final. I didn't know that. Nevazada caught me, after that it was very difficult and I finished the race with a silver medal."
Hajiyev also evaluated his performance in the Grand Prix of Portugal and expressed his expectations from the "Grand Slam" to be held in Baku: "Winning Brazilian Rafael Macedo and Hungarian Toth Christian in the first race of the year, the Portuguese Grand Prix, was a great incentive for me. Due to a mistake, I couldn't make it to the finals. But I am very happy that I won the bronze medal. After winning bronze in Portugal and silver in France, I hope to win gold in Baku. I trust myself."
It should be noted that the Grand Slam will be held in Baku on February 16-18.
