President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received International Judo Federation (IJF) President Ladislau-Marius Vizer on October 3.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing AZERTAC, President Ilham Aliyev thanked Vizer for his support for the development of judo in Azerbaijan and for the hosting of the World Judo Championships in Baku.
The head of state noted that Azerbaijan is hosting the prestigious competition for the second time and expressed confidence that the championship would be held at a high level.
President Ilham Aliyev said that judo is one of the most popular and successful sports in Azerbaijan in terms of medals won, highlighting the achievements of Azerbaijani judokas at major international competitions.
The president also stressed the role of modern sports infrastructure created both in Baku and across the country's regions in Azerbaijan's sporting achievements.
Vizer thanked President Ilham Aliyev for the reception and the high level of organisation of the World Judo Championships in Baku. He also congratulated Azerbaijan on the medals won by its judokas at various international competitions and expressed gratitude for the president's support for the development of judo in the country.
During the meeting, the sides noted Azerbaijan's active membership in the International Judo Federation and exchanged views on prospects for further cooperation between the IJF and the Azerbaijan Judo Federation.
At the end of the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev presented Vizer with the Dostlug Order. The IJF president thanked the head of state for the high recognition of his work.
Vizer was awarded the Dostlug Order by presidential decree for his contributions to the development of judo in Azerbaijan and internationally.
