Azerbaijani judokas begin Lausanne Grand Slam campaign today

The Judo Grand Slam will get underway today in Lausanne, Switzerland.

As reported by İdman.Biz, five members of the Azerbaijani national team will take to the tatami in three weight categories on the opening day of the competition.

In the women's 52kg category, Gultaj Mammadaliyeva will face Tajikistan's Madina Qurbonzoda in the round of 32, while Leyla Aliyeva will take on Japan's Rin Takeuchi at the same stage.

In the men's 60kg division, Ahmad Yusifov will enter the competition in the round of 32, where he will face the winner of the bout between Hungary's David Nagy and Tajikistan's Loiq Kudbudinov.

At 66kg, Turan Bayramov will meet American Lenny Scheinfeld in the round of 64, while Ruslan Pashayev will face Bahrain's Sukhrob Bokiyev in the round of 32.

The preliminary bouts are scheduled to begin at 10:30, with the final block starting at 19:00.

Azerbaijan are represented at the Lausanne Grand Slam by 14 judokas – 10 men and four women – across nine weight categories. The tournament, which offers qualification points for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, will conclude on August 30.
