Azerbaijan to field 14 judokas at Lausanne Grand Slam

Azerbaijan will be represented by 14 judokas at the Grand Slam tournament in Lausanne, Switzerland.

As reported by İdman.Biz, the Azerbaijan Judo Federation announced that the country's athletes will compete across nine weight categories.

The tournament, scheduled for August 28-30, will award ranking points towards qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympic Games.

The Azerbaijani men's team will be led by head coach Richard Trautmann and senior coaches Elchin Ismayilov and Slavko Tekic, while the women's team will be guided by head coach Amina Abdellatif.

Nazim Umbayev, a member of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation's Refereeing Committee and an international Category A referee, will also officiate at the tournament.

Azerbaijan's women's team will feature Gultaj Mammadaliyeva and Leyla Aliyeva (both 52 kg), Sudaba Aghayeva (70 kg) and Madina Kaisinova (+78 kg).

The men's squad includes Ahmad Yusifov (60 kg), Turan Bayramov and Ruslan Pashayev (both 66 kg), Kamran Suleymanov and Rashid Mammadaliyev (both 73 kg), Omar Rajabli and Vusal Galandarzade (both 81 kg), Vugar Talibov (90 kg), as well as Kanan Nasibov and Ushangi Kokauri (both +100 kg).

A total of 518 judokas from 78 countries are expected to compete in Lausanne, including 309 men and 209 women.
