“This medal is not only the result of the competition but also of hard work and patience,” Azerbaijani judoka Rashad Yelkiyev told AZERTAC after winning his first medal in the World Tour series.
Competing in the 66 kg weight category, Yelkiyev said the bronze medal he earned at the tournament held in Lima, Peru, means a lot to him: “We analyzed my opponent for the bronze medal match together with our coaches, and as a result, the fight went exactly as we had planned. I had prepared well for the tournament, and thankfully, my efforts paid off. This is my first medal in the World Tour series, and it’s very valuable to me. As a team, our goal is not only individual achievements but also to represent Azerbaijani judo at the highest level.”
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani national team finished the tournament with a total of seven medals - two silver and five bronze.
