Italian gymnast Lorenzo Bonicelli has been placed in a medically induced coma.
The 23-year-old athlete was injured during the men's team all-around gymnastics competition at the Universiade when he fell on his neck, Idman.biz reports.
Bonicelli was carried out of the hall on a stretcher and taken to the university clinic. After the incident, the Italian team withdrew from the competition.
The gymnast underwent surgery and is currently in an induced coma. More detailed information about his condition will be available within 10 days.
