The decision on who will lead Azerbaijan’s national football team as head coach is expected in the coming days.
Idman.biz, citing Sport24.az, reports that it will be revealed next week whether 44-year-old Aykhan Abbasov will remain in charge of the main squad, with negotiations between him and the Football Association ongoing.
If an agreement with Abbasov is not reached, the head coach position will be offered to a foreign specialist. Initial talks have already taken place, and a deal is reportedly agreed upon. Officials have also contacted former national team coach Robert Prosinecki as a backup, and the 56-year-old Croatian has shown a positive attitude toward returning to Azerbaijan. Prosinecki previously managed the national team from December 2014 to November 2017.
