Aleksandar Dimitrov, head coach of Bulgaria’s U21 national team, commented on his side’s first two matches in the European Championship qualifiers.
Idman.biz, citing Sportinfo.az, reports that the 49-year-old coach expressed satisfaction with the fight shown in the 1-1 draw against Azerbaijan and praised the development of football in the country.
“We aimed to collect six points from the games against Gibraltar and Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, we dropped two points in Baku. Although we achieved a big 3-0 win over Gibraltar, we played better against Azerbaijan even though it was an away match. Azerbaijan is a very strong and rapidly developing opponent. They are investing a lot in football,” Dimitrov said.
He also assessed Bulgaria U21’s chances of reaching the final tournament: “The group is very tough, but we still have a chance to qualify for the European Championship. We want to lead this young team to the next stage.”
