Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, and Sergio Ramos have paid heartfelt tributes to Sergio Busquets following the midfielder’s announcement that he will retire at the end of the 2025 MLS season.
Idman.biz reports that Messi and Busquets, who came through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy together, reunited at Inter Miami in 2023 after dominating Spanish and European football for years.
“Together from pretty much the beginning until the end ... A privilege to have enjoyed your football, Busi. And we still have a little more left!” Messi wrote on Instagram. Iniesta added, “What a privilege to share all these years with you brother. You are one of the greatest in football history… I wish you all the best in what is coming from now on heart.”
Busquets, widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation, played 722 matches for Barcelona, winning nine La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies. Barcelona called him a “legend” and thanked him for his contributions.
Even fierce rival Sergio Ramos lauded Busquets, describing him as “exceptional while remaining an ordinary guy” and one of the most brilliant midfielders he has played with. The tributes highlight Busquets’ immense influence on football, both on and off the pitch, as he prepares for the final chapters of his storied career.
