Former Spain and Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets will retire from football at the end of the MLS season, Inter Miami announced on Thursday.

Idman.biz reports that Busquets, 37, spent 18 years at Barcelona after coming through the club’s youth system, making his senior debut in 2008. He joined Inter Miami in 2023, reuniting with former teammates Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez.

A World Cup winner in 2010 and European Championship champion in 2012, Busquets earned 143 caps for Spain. He made over 700 appearances for Barcelona, winning nine LaLiga titles and three Champions League trophies.

Busquets posted on Instagram: "I feel like the time has come to say goodbye… I’m retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all, grateful."

In the U.S., he helped Miami win the Leagues Cup and Supporters’ Shield, and will finish his career in the MLS playoffs, closing nearly two decades of a decorated career.
