FIFA rejects idea of 64-team 2030 World Cup

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has rejected the idea of holding the 2030 World Cup with 64 teams.

Idman.biz, citing The Guardian, reports that the decision was made to ensure that the qualifying tournaments remain meaningful and to prevent an increase in “uncompetitive” matches during the World Cup.

A source within FIFA stated that not only in Europe but globally, most participants believe that a 64-team World Cup would harm the tournament: “There would be too many uninteresting matches, which could negatively impact the business model.”
