Rene Meulensteen, former assistant to Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, has shared his opinion on the potential replacement of Sporting’s head coach Ruben Amorim following the team's poor results at the start of the season.
In an interview with Metro, Meulensteen emphasized that if Amorim continues to struggle with results, the club might have no choice but to make a change, Idman.biz reports.
"I think that if Amorim continues to persist and the results don’t improve, and the wins don't come, the club will have no other option," said Meulensteen.
In his opinion, the obvious candidate for the replacement is Michael Carrick, who previously worked at Manchester United. "He still knows many players who worked under him, so he has valuable insider knowledge," the former coach noted.
Carrick was temporarily appointed as Manchester United’s head coach in November 2021 after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left the club.
The question of Amorim’s future remains open, and the club may soon make a decision regarding the next steps with the coach.
