“All the teams we will face are very serious opponents.”
This is what Qarabag’s head coach, Gurban Gurbanov, said when evaluating the UEFA Champions League Stage draw, Idman.biz reports.
The experienced coach stressed the great responsibility that comes with the League Stage:
“Our opponents are clubs with strong traditions and long histories in their countries. ‘Liverpool,’ ‘Chelsea,’ ‘Ajax,’ ‘Napoli,’ as well as others like ‘Benfica,’ ‘Eintracht,’ ‘Copenhagen,’ and ‘Athletic’ are all powerful teams well known to everyone. We will try to prepare well for these matches, because this tournament is on a completely different level. The excitement in the Champions League is several times greater. Here, strength, speed, and the flow of the game are completely different. We understand that this brings enormous responsibility. We will do our best to fight well and make our fans happy.”
Gurbanov also emphasized that they will play 4 matches in Baku, and that the fans truly deserve it:
“First of all, I want to thank our fans once again. During the playoff second leg against ‘Ferencvaros,’ the support they showed, the atmosphere they created in the stadium – I am grateful to each of them. Our fans deserved to witness the League Stage of the Champions League. I am very happy that this season they will be able to watch at least 4 Champions League matches live in Baku. As for the 4 away matches, they will at least have the chance to watch them on television.”
In the League Stage, Qarabag will play away against Liverpool (England), Benfica (Portugal), Napoli (Italy), and Athletic (Spain), while at home they will face Chelsea (England), Eintracht (Germany), Ajax (Netherlands), and Copenhagen (Denmark).
