Denes Dibusz: “Qarabag scored deserved goals on counterattacks”

“We did our best. We knew the first goal was very important and could change the game.”

Idman.biz reports that these words were spoken to AZERTAC by Denes Dibusz, goalkeeper of Hungary’s Ferencvaros, after their UEFA Champions League play-off tie against Qarabag (4:5 on aggregate), in which his team was eliminated.

He said conceding a goal at the end of the first half had a negative impact on the team: “We scored, and even after being 1:2 down, we had another chance to equalize, but we conceded due to our mistake. Seeing the ball in our net at the end of the half was very hard. The opponent played very well on counterattacks and scored deserved goals.”

The 34-year-old Hungarian international added that substitutions in the second half made a difference: “After the changes, we played more aggressively, faster, and offensively. We scored again, which gave us strength. In the last 10 minutes, everything was still open.”

Qarabag will continue in the Champions League group stage, while Ferencvaros will compete in the Europa League.
