Crystal Palace explore move for Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji

Crystal Palace have reportedly made an inquiry to sign Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji, according to sources cited by BBC Sport.

Idman.biz, citing BBC, reports that while no official bid has been submitted, Palace have checked on the availability of the Swiss international, who has yet to feature in either of City's Premier League matches this season.

City are reportedly seeking around £15 million for the 30-year-old, who joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 and played a key role in City's Treble-winning campaign, starting in the Champions League final victory over Inter Milan. Turkish champions Galatasaray are also said to be interested in signing Akanji.

Manager Pep Guardiola recently indicated that City’s priority this summer is managing departures after spending more than £150 million on six players. Guardiola emphasized the importance of reducing squad size, stating that “people will talk with players and agents to find a solution.”

Other notable transfer developments include goalkeeper Ederson being linked with Galatasaray and Tottenham negotiating for winger Savinho. The Premier League summer transfer window closes at 19:00 BST on Monday.

This potential move highlights Crystal Palace’s ambition to strengthen their defense ahead of a challenging season.
