“Our team will start the new season with the funds allocated by AFFA from the state budget.”
Idman.biz reports that these words were said by Musa Gurbanov, a member of the Supervisory Board of “Zagatala,” in a statement to Sportinfo.az.
He mentioned that the provincial club, which has competed in the First Division since 2014, had unsuccessful talks regarding major sponsorship.
The well-known football figure noted that Vugar Gurbanov, Executive Director of TABIB, tried to support his hometown club but the process reached an impasse: “I don’t know why it turned out this way. Vugar Gurbanov wanted ‘Zagatala’ to get out of this situation and be ambitious. He did everything he could. We were supposed to meet with the companies he mentioned. There had been verbal discussions about this. For some reason, there was no news from those companies afterward. We realized there was no point in continuing talks. If football had seemed like an interesting field to them, they would have taken some steps themselves. Honestly, we were very hopeful until the last days. We had big plans. We wanted to replace the pitch at the Zagatala Olympic Complex stadium. The turf’s usage period has long expired. In general, there is a lot of necessary work to be done there. The locker rooms also need repairs. Now we will have to build the team with the previous budget. This is an extremely difficult issue. Prices keep rising every year, but the budget allocated to clubs does not change. Expenses keep increasing, how things will turn out is unclear even to us. The entire burden has fallen on the shoulders of the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Shaban Shirdanov. He is really working hard, doing everything he can to get someone to help the team.”
