Martin Adam: “Qarabag reached this level through difficult paths” – INTERVIEW

Interview with Martin Adam, Forward of the Hungary National Team for AZERTAC.

“Qarabag” defeated Ferencvaros 3-1 in the first leg. What can you say about this match?

It was interesting to watch because we saw two very different halves. In the first half, Ferencvaros had more opportunities and scored a beautiful goal. In the second half, Bence Otvos got injured, so Akos Toth had to drop back to the defensive midfield position, which changed the flow of the game. Qarabag took good advantage of this. Ferencvaros’ three defenders struggled to stop Qarabag’s fast and technical wingers. The Azerbaijani champions earned a deserved victory. But there is still the return leg, so nothing is over yet.

What factors could be decisive in the return match?

– The first goal will be crucial. If Qarabag scores first, it’s almost over. But if Ferencvaros scores first, everything starts again. Patience will be important. Ferencvaros will need to attack but at the same time avoid leaving too many gaps in defense, because Qarabag’s fast and technically strong attackers will immediately exploit them. It’s a big and difficult task, but not impossible.

Overall, what are your thoughts on Qarabag?

– Qarabag is a team with a great history. I know they have reached this level through difficult paths and achieve high results. Gurban Gurbanov has led the team for 17 years, which is very rare in modern football. Everyone knows their responsibility well, and the team has a strong squad that has been formed over many years. The new players are also high quality and have adapted quickly. I think this is Qarabag’s biggest advantage over Ferencvaros, as the Hungarian club undergoes many squad changes every year.

Are there any players in Qarabag that you particularly like?

– Of course, there are many good players in the team. For example, playmaker Marko Jankovic, as well as Kady Borges, who played at Ferencvaros last season and proved himself. I would also highlight Kevin Medina. He is reliable in defense and a true leader.

Which other Azerbaijani clubs do you know?

– Besides Qarabag, I know Neftchi, because my fellow countryman, Mark Tamas, played there for two seasons.
