National team defender Hojjat Haqverdi has put “Turan Tovuz” in a dilemma.
Idman.biz, citing Sportinfo.az, reports that coach Kurban Berdyev wants to have the Iranian player, who spent the last 2.5 years at Neftchi, under his command.
The head coach is eager for him to join the team soon and has asked the management to agree on financial terms. The Russian coach mentioned that he knows Haqverdi from his time at Tractor.
However, the club’s Board Chairman Ehtiram Guliyev and other officials are against the stopper, who is currently without a club, joining Tovuz.
This is because the amount Haqverdi expects is too high for them. The national team member intends to earn $140,000 for a one-year contract.
Haqverdi has been a free agent for nearly three months. During this time, he has received several offers. In addition to “Araz-Nakhchivan” and “Sumgayit,” he has also been invited by clubs from Iran and Malaysia. Due to his financial demands, nothing has been finalized yet.
Tovuz has made eight signings this summer. David Oliveira Tavares (“Buzau,” Romania), Abdulla Rzayev (loaned from “Sabah”), Roberto Olabe (“Ibiza,” Spain), Oleg Baklov (“Ufa,” Russia), Filip Ozobic (“Neftchi”), Ibrahima Wadji (“Saint-Etienne,” France), Alejandro Serrano, and Henrique Silva (“Valladolid,” Spain) have joined the squad.
