Former Zenit player Claudinho could be stripped of his Russian citizenship.
This is due to his decision to leave Russia following comments about the war in Ukraine.
Dmitry Svishchev, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Education and Sports, told the “Abzats” publication: “If the facts are confirmed, I will prepare an inquiry regarding the verification of his statements and the possible revocation of his citizenship.”
Claudinho transferred from Zenit to Qatar’s Al-Sadd club in January.
In the 2024/25 season, Claudinho played 19 matches for Zenit, scoring 1 goal and providing 1 assist. He had been with the club since 2021, during which time he won the Russian Premier League three times, the Super Cup three times, and the Russian Cup once.
