Aykhan Abbasov, head coach of Azerbaijan’s U-21 national football team, welcomes the decision to implement a financial incentive mechanism for clubs in the Misli Premier League that field local players.
Idman.biz reports that the coach shared his opinion with Report news agency.
He noted that such measures are positive: “If we’re talking about significant amounts, this will be interesting for the clubs. More than half of the teams have smaller budgets than others. Perhaps in the future, clubs will be more inclined to do this. But everything depends on the amount. On the other hand, talented young players who are already strong will play for their clubs regardless. If we want to give a talented player a chance, financial incentives aren’t important. We will give them a chance. But of course, having such incentives is an advantage and a good development.”
According to Abbasov, clubs may sometimes give young players opportunities in the league because of financial benefits: “For example, at Shamakhi, fielding three young players throughout the season and receiving financial support will also be interesting for us. But again, the amount is very important. In any case, I positively welcome this decision. The foreign player limit has been removed. Fees have increased, and clubs will not recruit as many foreigners. They will be obliged to pay extra funds.”
The AFFA Executive Committee implemented the financial incentive mechanism on February 3.
