The amount to be paid for local players will serve as an additional incentive for clubs.
Idman.biz reports that this was stated by Vagif Sadygov, chairman of AFFA’s Coaches Committee, in an interview with Report news agency.
The experienced specialist commented on the mechanism introduced by AFFA to financially reward clubs in the Misli Premier League for fielding local players in their squads.
According to him, the new decision will be beneficial for Azerbaijani football: “If the foreign player limit is removed in the Premier League, we must also consider local players. The amount to be paid will encourage the inclusion of local players on the field. I believe the current situation will serve as an incentive for clubs. The decision taken is aimed at the benefit of Azerbaijani football. There is a provision that a player who has played for at least three consecutive seasons in the club’s youth teams or reserve team before being promoted to the main squad will receive a higher payment.”
Sadygov also highlighted that Premier League clubs are giving chances to local players in their main squads: “The first round of the current season is already behind us. We could not watch the games of Qarabag and Sabah. However, looking at other clubs, we were pleased with what we saw. When the foreign player limit was removed, everyone thought that clubs would rely solely on foreign players. But in the first round, we saw that even ambitious teams are making use of local players.”
According to the new decision, the bonus fund will be formed from the fees paid for foreign players listed in the squads of clubs participating in the championship.
