Tiago Silva: “We couldn’t score” – INTERVIEW

Interview with Zira goalkeeper Tiago Silva for Futbolxeber.az.

In the first round of the Misli Premier League, you drew 1:1 at home against Araz-Nakhchivan. What can you say about the game?

It was a tough match. But I think we were better on the field compared to the opponent. We managed to score our goal and wanted to take advantage of other opportunities as well. However, the opponent managed to equalize. When you fail to capitalize on your chances, results like this happen. But in any case, we were better.

What prevented you from scoring a second goal?

We created such chances, but we couldn’t convert them. I think we need to work on this. If we can create similar opportunities in upcoming matches, we’ll score 3–4 goals.

After Zira’s goal, you moved toward the center. What was the reason for provoking the opponent?

No, it’s my habit. Every time we score a goal, I come toward the center. It’s just to be closer to my teammates. That’s all. There might be some dialogue with the opposing players, but the important thing was our performance in today’s game. And it was at a high level.

There was tension among the players on the field. Could this be related to both teams being eliminated from European competitions? Were you perhaps seeking redemption through a win?

I think our team tries to do its best in every match, regardless of the opponent. Considering the opponent also represented the country in the Conference League, some aggression is understandable. Given the high intensity of the match, such situations are natural.

In the championship, 2–3 teams have announced they will fight for the title from the start. What is your main goal?

As a team, everyone wants it. I joined this club three years ago. In the past two seasons, we finished second. Of course, I would like to become champion. Personally, I want to achieve this with the team.

You’ve been here for three years. If it were up to you, how long would you like to stay?

I don’t want to make any predictions about the future. I think there were good things in today’s game. What happened seven months ago? That’s in the past. Talking about the future is still too early.
