If Qarabag takes advantage of the opportunities in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League play-off against Ferencvaros in Hungary, they will return from the trip with a good result.
This was stated to Report news agency by former Azerbaijani national team player Jeyhun Sultanov, Idman.biz reports.
The 46-year-old former midfielder shared his thoughts on Qarabag’s match today: “Qarabag will try to secure at least a minimal result away. The Azerbaijani champions will not want to lose. I have high hopes for our team. Qarabag has its own unique playing style and can compete against any opponent.”
Sultanov noted that the Hungarian champions are also a strong team: “They have dangerous players and have even defeated Qarabag before. Most likely, they will try to take revenge. But our team must make the most of the opportunities they get. If they do, they will return with a good result.”
The former national team member added that it is too early to talk about the group stage: “In my opinion, the chances are equal. I say this because it’s the first leg. I believe the outcome of the tie will become clear in Baku. I wish Qarabag success and hope they return to Azerbaijan with a positive result.”
Today’s Ferencvaros vs. Qarabag match will kick off at 23:00 Baku time. The return leg between the teams will take place on August 27 at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium. The winner will qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage, while the loser will enter the Europa League group stage.
