The new president of Shahdag Gusar, Rahid Amirguliyev, is ready to do everything possible to ensure the club continues its activities.
Idman.biz reports that the new leader of the First League club said this in an interview with Report news agency.
He spoke about being appointed president of the Gusar club: “We wanted football to live on in Gusar. The sponsor who had supported Shahdag Gusar for many years has ended its cooperation. I thank them for their support over the years. As everyone knows, the team faced serious financial problems during the summer. I thought I should take responsibility for this team. I also thank the Football Development Fund for supporting us in this work. Football must live in Gusar. I do not want the champion of the Second League to stop operating. As both a player and club president, I am ready to do everything I can to make things better.”
The 35-year-old midfielder also spoke about his team’s goals for the new season in the First League: “Unfortunately, our goal will not be the championship. With the budget allocated by AFFA, we will try to maintain the team’s position in the First League. Most of the squad consists of young players. Only four players from last year’s squad have stayed with us. Elnur Abdullayev will continue to serve as head coach, as he did last year.”
Shahdag Gusar won the Azerbaijan Second League last season.
