“The ‘Goal of the Month’ project, organized by the Professional Football League (PFL) in the Azerbaijan Premier League over the past two years, will continue in the 2025/26 season.”
Idman.biz reports that PFL president Elkhan Samadov made this statement in an interview with Futbolxeber.az.
He also clarified why a similar “Save of the Month” award for goalkeepers, discussed last season, was not introduced: “We discussed presenting a ‘Save of the Month’ award with our sponsor last season. The difference is that there are many players on the field, and beautiful goal opportunities arise frequently, so the selection is made from over a hundred players. As for goalkeepers, almost all teams use the same goalkeeper in most matches. This would mean selecting from nearly the same goalkeepers over about ten months. That’s why we decided not to implement this project.”
