The "Araz-Nakhchivan" club contacted a UEFA official regarding the removal of an Armenian flag from the stands during the return leg of the Conference League third qualifying round against "Omonia" in Cyprus.
Idman.biz reports, citing the Azerbaijani club’s press service via "Report," that the issue was immediately reported to the police.
The club stated that the UEFA official initially said it was an official flag, but the club responded that the match involved Cypriot and Azerbaijani teams, so the flag of another country should not be in the stands, calling it an attempted provocation. The official agreed, informed the police, and the flag was removed. The official also noted this in their report. The club added that they had raised this possibility during a pre-match meeting.
The match ended with a 5-0 victory for the hosts. Having lost 4-0 in Baku, "Araz-Nakhchivan" was eliminated from the UEFA Conference League.
