Deni Gaisumov: "If Gurban Gurbanov goes to Spartak, he will face major problems"

“I read in the Russian media that there’s a possibility of Gurban Gurbanov coaching Spartak. It would be great if he did. Yes, people write and talk about it, but working as a head coach at Spartak is very difficult. Practically, from the media to everything else, pressure on the coach starts immediately. If we look at history, the last coach who worked quietly and for many years at Spartak was Oleg Romantsev. After him, there have always been coaching changes and resignations. If Gurban Gurbanov is appointed as Spartak’s head coach, he will face major problems.”

Idman.biz reports that these words were said by Deni Gaisumov, former captain of Terek and former member of the Azerbaijani national team, in an interview with Sportal.az.

He commented on the claims in the Russian media that Gurban Gurbanov could coach Spartak. Gaisumov, who is currently working as a coach in Russia, believes that Qarabag’s head coach could succeed at Spartak: “Of course, Gurbanov could succeed at Spartak. But for that, the coach must be allowed to work calmly. Now the championship is becoming stronger, and it will be more difficult. I think Gurban won’t leave Qarabag. There’s no need. After all, he has built a team like Qarabag, and they consistently play in the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League. There’s no point in leaving now. Gurban Gurbanov could wait for an offer from a good European club. I’m sure that if that happens, he would go to that club. Otherwise, leaving at this moment makes no sense, he has formed an excellent team at Qarabag. He shouldn’t get distracted now, there are two matches ahead on the road to the Champions League group stage. I wish him and Qarabag success.”
