Elgiz Karamli: "If that plan existed, why would they have signed a contract with me?"

“We started preparations on July 21 and things are going as planned. We’ve had three friendly matches against Shimal, Jabrayil, and Neftchi-2.”

These words were spoken to Sport24.az by Elgiz Karamli, head coach of the First League team Shafa, Idman.biz reports.

He added that a training camp is scheduled in Gabala from August 20 to 28: “Friendly matches are also planned there. We will face MOIK and a team from Kuwait. Another match is yet to be confirmed. Currently, we are still completing the squad. We have new transfers, and integrating them is a bit challenging. We have added Urfan Ismayilov from Gabala and Amir Ebrahimzadeh from Iran (South Azerbaijan). I hope they will strengthen our team.”

The coach also mentioned that transfer work is nearly complete: “If the opportunity arises, we might sign one more forward.”

Elgiz Karamli also addressed media reports claiming that Javid Huseynov would be appointed head coach of Shafa: “There has been no such discussion. I just signed the contract. If that plan existed, why would they have signed a contract with me? Our goal is to qualify for the Premier League. Once that is achieved, we can reconsider the contract. Shafa is a team competing for the championship in the First League. Everyone would want to be head coach here. Other coaches’ names, including Javid Huseynov’s, have appeared in the media, but I can say clearly that it’s just baseless talk.”
