Newcastle secures Malick Thiaw in £35m deal to strengthen defense

Newcastle United has agreed a £35 million deal with AC Milan to sign German defender Malick Thiaw, ending manager Eddie Howe’s long search for a right-sided centre-back.

Idman.biz, citing The Guardian, reports that the 24-year-old arrived in northeast England on Sunday and was set for a medical on Monday. Thiaw, standing 6ft 4in, told reporters before leaving Italy that he is “happy with the choice” and “ready for the Premier League.”

While Milan wanted to keep him, Thiaw pushed for the move to Newcastle. Known for his versatility, he can also play right-back and defensive midfield, providing strong competition for Fabian Schar. Thiaw’s arrival signals the end of Newcastle’s pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

Meanwhile, uncertainty surrounds striker Alexander Isak, who continues to agitate for a move to Liverpool. As a result, Newcastle is intensifying efforts to sign a forward. A deal for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa is expected soon, and they have also expressed interest in Porto’s Samu Aghehowa, who scored 27 goals last season and has a €100m release clause. Isak is reportedly training separately and is unlikely to feature in the upcoming match at Aston Villa.
