Former forward of the Azerbaijan national team, Mirabdulla Abbasov, who recently joined Kyrgyzstan’s Abdish-Ata club, gave an interview to Apasport.az.
How are things going in Kyrgyzstan? Is there anything boring for you?
Everything is fine. No, it’s actually not boring. I’m staying in the capital. Our training stadiums are nearby. Everything is to my liking.
How would you compare the Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan championships?
It’s a bit difficult to compare. Here, the competition is stronger. Of course, there isn’t a team like Qarabag, but there are many teams of similar level. That’s why the Kyrgyzstan championship is interesting. If you look at the league table, you’ll see that six teams have a chance for the title. Overall, I’m satisfied with the league’s level. I’m happy with everything.
In the last round in Kyrgyzstan, there was almost an “Azerbaijan derby” against Ozgon club, where Orkhan Aliyev and Dmitriy Nagiyev play. How did you feel?
Of course, considering that we are abroad, seeing familiar faces is very pleasant. It was a tough game. I’m very happy for the boys because both Orkhan Aliyev and Dmitriy Nagiyev have become leading players of their team in a short time.
Were you satisfied with the result?
In the first round, our team won 5-2. In this game, despite the opponent playing with 10 men from the 2nd minute, it was a very difficult win. Honestly, our team did not look like itself on the field. There was also the referee factor. It seemed that because the opponent got a red card in the first minute, all decisions were against our team. The opponent’s goalkeeper fouled me when the score was 0-0; it was clearly a 100% penalty. If you watch the replay, you will see for yourself. Anyway, I want to congratulate my teammates for their perseverance.
By the way, your former club Neftchi is a contender this season. Do you think they will win the championship?
Neftchi always holds a special place in my heart. I believe they will have a successful season and take the team to the places they deserve. I sincerely wish Neftchi the championship. I believe that with Samir Abasov, Neftchi will be able to achieve the success they once did. Good luck to the Neftchi family.
