Tottenham’s James Maddison suffers ACL injury

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison is set to miss the majority of the upcoming season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The 28-year-old sustained the injury during Spurs’ pre-season draw against Newcastle in South Korea last weekend.

Idman.biz, citing BBC, reports that sources told BBC Sport that Maddison will undergo surgery in the coming days and begin a lengthy rehabilitation process. Manager Thomas Frank confirmed the injury involved the same knee that previously sidelined Maddison for the Europa League final against Manchester United in May.

Following the team’s return from Asia, medical tests confirmed initial fears of a serious ligament tear. Maddison joined Tottenham from Leicester City in 2023 and had an impressive debut season, scoring 12 goals in 45 appearances.

He has earned seven caps for England, most recently appearing in 2024. His absence will be a major blow for both Spurs and their Premier League campaign.
