Darwin Nunez set for Al-Hilal move as Liverpool accept €53m offer

Liverpool have agreed to sell striker Darwin Nunez to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal for €53 million (£46.3m). The 26-year-old Uruguay international is set to undergo a medical before completing the move. Signed from Benfica in 2022 for £64m, Nunez scored 40 goals in 143 appearances for the Reds but only started eight Premier League matches last season.

Idman.biz, citing BBC, reports that the deal could aid Liverpool’s pursuit of Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, after the Magpies rejected an initial £110m bid. Isak is valued at around £150m.

Nunez’s sale follows a busy transfer window for Liverpool, who have already spent over £250m on players like Florian Wirtz (£116m) and Hugo Ekitike (£79m), while offloading Luis Diaz (£65.5m to Bayern) and Tyler Morton (£15m to Lyon).

Nunez had previously attracted interest from Napoli and Al-Nassr, with the latter’s €70m bid rejected in January. Despite scoring just seven goals last season, he has netted five times in pre-season, including a 20-minute hat-trick vs. Stoke.
